Dimensions: 2.25" x 3/4"

Closure: C-clasp with a Lever Safety

Era: Belle Epoque, circa 1910

This antique bar brooch is a testament to the overlapping of the historical eras of jewelry making. It is believed to have been crafted in the middle of the Belle Epoque jewelry era, having characteristics of 4 different movements. It is crafted in 10 karat white gold, which only became commercially available around 1910. The beautiful filigree design and use of flower designs is characteristic of late-Victorian era until the Art-Deco era. The brooch is set with emerald simulants that were wildly popular as cinema and movie stars began influencing fashion to the general public instead of kings, queens, princes, and princesses. The centralized arches along the length of the brooch represents the Art Nouveau influence on this piece, as well as the use of yellow gold for the flowers, breaking away from the traditional ‘white on white’ look. The production of kite-shaped gemstones had just begun, although they became more popular about a decade later, in the Art Deco movement. The attached C-clasp with a lever safety closure is further indication that this brooch was crafted around 1910. This brooch has passed through over 100 years of history. It was probably worn daily for decades, stored for several more decades in a long-forgotten jewelry box, and is certainly ready to be worn again! It has minimal damage for its age, and is still in wearable condition.
