*Just as citrine is often heated amethyst, so is prasiolite. It is acceptable to call heated amethyst either genuine prasiolite or genuine citrine, depending on the intensity and shades of yellows and greens. Natural prasiolite is amethyst that experienced intense heat and radiation while deep within the earth. Natural prasiolite is very rare and the color is usually pale and uneven.
